Carved out from the hilly terrains as well as plains, this model Vidyalaya for the district is 90 kms from the nearest city of Jagdalpur, 400 kms from the state capital Raipur, 45 kms from the famous gurgling waterfall of Chitrakote and 2 kms from one of the world's Heritage sites, Asia's third largest idol of ganesha, god of learning.
The Village is most comfortably approachable only by road. The nearest railway Station is 29 kms at Geedam or 35 kms at Dantewada, the district headquarter. Thereafter one can avail of one's personal transport for reaching the destination.
From the year 1993 till 2005 this Vidyalaya has been catering to the demands of talented students from three districts - Kanker, Bastar and Dantewada. From the year 2006 Kanker too got its model school like Bastar earlier, thus leaving more chance for the native students to take fullest advantage of the seat of learning in the district.
The Vidyalaya intakes students from the district from class 6th after an All India Entrance Exam after their class V.
The Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya selection test for 2008-09 will be held on February 11-2008 at various centers of the district. The forms for the selection test will be available with all BEO’s of the district, AC office, collectorate Dantewada etc. Filled application form should be submitted to BEO office by November 15th 2007.
